Editorial Policy

This page explains how Boxofin decides what to recommend, where our information comes from, and how we keep guides accurate. We think you should be able to judge our advice by seeing how it was made.

What we do, and do not, claim

Boxofin is a research publication. We do not operate a testing lab, and our guides do not claim hands-on tests, measurements or hours of use that did not happen. When a figure appears in a guide, such as a noise rating, energy use or clean air delivery rate, it comes from a source we can name.

Where our information comes from

  • Manufacturers: specification sheets, user manuals and warranty terms.
  • Independent standards: ENERGY STAR and U.S. Department of Energy data, AHAM verified ratings (such as CADR for air purifiers) and published decibel (dBA) ratings.
  • Safety records: recall notices from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
  • Owners: recurring patterns in verified owner reviews, such as a part that commonly fails or a feature people consistently praise. One review is an anecdote; we look for patterns.

How we choose products

We start from the reader’s situation (kitchen size, household, budget, noise sensitivity) and compare products on what matters after purchase:

  • Running cost: energy and water use, filters, pods and other consumables.
  • Noise: rated sound levels, especially for dishwashers, purifiers and vacuums.
  • Everyday effort: cleaning, maintenance and how easy it is to use.
  • Reliability and support: warranty length, parts availability and owner-reported problems.
  • Value: whether a higher price buys a real difference.

If a cheaper product does the job as well, we say so.

Independence

Brands cannot pay for coverage or rankings, and they do not review guides before publication. We may earn commission from links (see our Affiliate & Advertising Disclosure), but recommendations are made before links are added, not because of them.

Updates and corrections

Products change, prices move and models are discontinued. We revisit guides regularly and update them when better information appears. If you find a mistake, email [email protected] with the page link. We check every correction request and fix confirmed errors promptly.

Safety

Our guides are general buying advice. For installation of gas, electrical or plumbed appliances, follow the manufacturer’s instructions and local codes, and use a qualified installer where required.
